Event Details

DEI Literacy for Nonprofit Organizations will provide a foundational understanding of the significance and value of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the everyday practices of nonprofit organizations. It is imperative for nonprofit organizations to foster spaces of trust, safety, inclusion, and belonging within their teams as well as the communities they serve. This presentation is designed to inform and coach professionals in the nonprofit sector to center diversity, equity, and inclusion in their organizational operations. Participants will be inspired to incorporate DEI into their work beyond their mission and vision statements.

Participants can expect to:

  • Gain an introduction to DEI concepts.
  • Learn strategies for identifying and addressing DEI shortfalls.
  • Assess the culture of community engagement.
  • Articulate the value of DEI in the nonprofit sector.
  • Cultivate and sustain a culture of equity and inclusiveness.

 

About the Speaker:

Dr. Nadia Richardson is an innovative DEI consultant, speaker, mental health advocate, and educator. She has over 20 years of experience as a diversity trainer, mental health nonprofit founder/leader, and university instructor. In the field of diversity, equity and inclusion, she has developed a signature program that equips clients to move beyond diversity towards an action-oriented understanding of cultural competence, responsiveness, identity, and implicit bias. She has worked with corporations, public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and higher education institutions. Dr. Richardson frequently speaks on a variety of issues relative to creating a safe, competent, and inclusive workplace. She has conducted workshops, facilitated trainings, and served on panels for the Seattle Mariners, American Medical Association, University of Alabama College for Community Health Sciences, Maryland Department of Health, Jefferson County Family Court, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Alabama Media Group, Georgia Women’s Executive Network, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Mental Health and Addiction Association of Oregon, United Way, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Active Minds, Houston Community College System, Spelman College, Providence College, and Bucknell University. As a university instructor, she leads courses on diversity, bioethics, social justice leadership and culturally responsive care.
