Grant Opportunities

The Alabama Power Foundation has several grant cycles opening in 2022. The Foundation focuses in the areas of Educational Advancement, Civic & Community Development, Arts & Cultural Enrichment, Health & Human Services, and Environmental Stewardship. Below are grant cycles for several Alabama Power Foundation programs, click on the bolded titles for more information.

Students to Stewards: 1/17/22 – 2/11/22

“Students to Stewards delivers hands-on, informative educational programs to build awareness in the schools about our state’s incredible natural resources and biological diversity,” said Susan Comensky, Alabama Power vice president of Environmental Affairs. “Working with schools and teachers around the state, Students to Stewards helps broaden understanding of our natural world and how we can all work together to protect it.”

Classroom Grants [Cycle 1]: 2/14/22 – 3/4/22

The Alabama Power Foundation has awarded Classroom grants to schools across Alabama to support learning initiatives at the elementary, middle and high school levels. The program provides teachers with grants of up to $1,000 to purchase materials and supplies that can be used to improve the classroom environment and enhance students’ ability to learn.

Power to Play: 3/7/22 – 4/1/22

The Alabama Power Foundation has awarded Power to Play grants to support arts and athletics programs at public schools across Alabama. Grants range from $1,000 to $2,500. All recipients of Power to Play grants are public schools with 50% or more of their students eligible for free or reduced-price lunches.

Good Roots: 3/28/22 – 4/29/22

Good Roots grants provide up to $1,000 to help cities, towns, schools and nonprofit organizations plant trees and undertake beautification efforts, helping enhance public spaces for all to enjoy. To date, the foundation has awarded more than 700 Good Roots grants totaling more than $680,000 that help make communities greener and more beautiful.

Elevate: 6/22/22 – 7/22/22

“This year’s Elevate grants will enhance programs that provide for a more equitable society, as well as support training on issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Marsha Morgan with the foundation’s Community Initiatives team.

Classroom Grants [Cycle 2]: 8/29/22 – 9/16/22

Gateway: 9/19/22 – 10/21/22

The Alabama Power Foundation has awarded nearly $60,000 in Gateway grants to support communities across the state – part of its longstanding commitment to elevating Alabama. The Gateway program supports economic development and tourism in Alabama communities by providing grants of up to $2,500 to fund welcome signs, marketing materials and website development.

The general 2022 application deadlines to the Foundation are:

First quarter: January 28, 2022 at 5 pm
Second quarter: April 8, 2022
Third quarter: July 22, 2022 at 5 pm
Fourth quarter: October 14, 2022 at 5 pm
