Fall 2021 Training Calendar
We are excited to share our fall calendar and hope to see you at an event soon! In response to our member survey, we will focus trainings in two tracks. The first is a Nonprofit 101 series that covers the 6 major areas of nonprofit governance and management based on the Standards for Excellence®. The second is a Professional Development & Capacity Building series that dives deeply into content areas you identified as most important in the member survey.
The Nonprofit 101 trainings will be 75-90 minutes in length, and they cover the 27 topics identified by the Standards for Excellence® Institute as most important to creating successful nonprofits. Organizations that attend each of the six training sessions will have the building blocks needed to apply for accreditation with the Institute and potentially receive the Seal of Excellence. This is a series that looks at governance and management of your nonprofit in bite-sized pieces, and it allows you to do the needed follow-up work in your organization before moving on to the next focus area. Danielle Dunbar will kick the series off with an introduction to Standards for Excellence®, held virtually on September 16 from 10:00-11:15. Danielle will lead the training series and the first training will be held in hybrid on October 21 from 10:00-11:30 and it will focus on your organization’s mission and impact. It will be held in Huntsville* (following CDC protocols for COVID safety) and online. Recorded versions of all trainings in the series will be available until 12/31/2022.
The Professional Development & Capacity Building trainings will be 2 hours to 6 hours in length, depending on the topic covered. We will have a variety of experts from Alabama, the southeast, and across the nation leading these trainings. In our survey you identified board development, an annual fundraising plan, grantwriting, advanced communications & social media, and newsletter design & constant contact tools as the most important topics. We will kick off this series with a 6-hour grantwriting training led by Terra Mortensen of TerraGrants+. “Grantwriting 201” will be held on November 18, 2021 from 9:00-3:00 with an option to participate in Birmingham* (following CDC protocols for COVID safety) or online. A recorded version of the training will also be available until November 18, 2022.
Terra has worked as a consultant, grant writer, and marketing writer for nonprofit organizations in the greater Birmingham area since 2010. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she graduated with University Honors and was recognized nationally as a PRSSA Gold Key recipient. She spent fifteen years in marketing, advertising, and public relations, where she worked with a variety of commercial and non-profit companies across a range of industries before starting her consulting business.
