Professional Bio
DaShana L. Jelks joined the City of Birmingham, AL in July 2023 as its first Municipal Comptroller. In this role, she leads the General Accounting Division which is responsible for Accounts Payable, Audit and Reconciliation, Contract Compliance, Fixed Assets and Special Assessments. She also leads the annul audit and prepares the financial statements for various stakeholders. Prior to the City of Birmingham, DaShana was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of YWCA of Central Alabama. She served as the Director of Finance for Grady Health Foundation in Atlanta, GA. She also served from 2005 to 2019 as the Vice-President of Accounting for Sheltering Arms, the oldest early childhood education organization in Atlanta, GA.
DaShana hold a BS in Accounting from Alabama A & M University in Normal, AL and a MS in Management from Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL. She is the mother of one son who is an avid soccer player and a Silver Star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
