Managing the Pace of Change

Alabama nonprofit leaders, we know you’re feeling the pressure, and it’s coming from every direction:

Need is growing.
North Alabama food banks reported demand up nearly 50% this spring as fuel, food, and utility costs climbed.
Fewer people are giving. The Fundraising Effectiveness Project found the number of donors fell again in early 2026, even as total dollars rose.
Pay isn’t keeping up. In AAN’s 2026 Compensation and Benefits Report with the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA), 72% of organizations that reported their lowest wage pay below what a single adult needs to cover basic costs in Alabama.
Our own workforce is struggling. Independent Sector estimated that in 2022, about 25,000 Alabama nonprofit workers lived in ALICE households, earning above the poverty line but not enough to afford the basics. Nationally, the Federal Reserve has heard from nonprofits whose staff now rely on the very services their organizations provide.

We can’t control the pace of change, but we can decide how we meet it, and we’re stronger when we meet it together.

The 2027 Nonprofit Summit is built for this moment. Dedicated tracks for CEOs, CFOs and administrators, advocacy leadership, development staff, and communications professionals will help you lead lean teams without burning out, manage rising costs, strengthen your donor base, and earn your community’s trust. Because we’re gathering in Montgomery, you’ll also have the option to see the new State House and meet your elected officials face to face, making the case together for the people and organizations that keep Alabama’s communities strong. Since AAN’s first statewide conference in 1997, the Summit has been where our sector comes together to share what works. Over two days, you’ll connect with leaders from across the state who are facing the same pressures you are.

Join us February 23 and 24 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center. Register by November 30 to save $25 with our Early Bird discount on our already low rates. Register two or more people at the same time and save 10%. Seats are limited, and registration closes February 9. If you’re staying overnight, book your room before the hotel block closes February 1. KEYNOTE SPEAKER
KIMBERLY POREMSKI, Founder/President, AGILE Prowess
The Leadership Trap

Kimberly Poremski is the founder of Agile Prowess and a Certified Scrum Trainer® (CST®), a designation held by a small number of practitioners worldwide.

When need is rising and teams are stretched thin, even smart, mission-driven leaders can fall into well-intentioned habits that hold their organizations back. In The Leadership Trap, keynote speaker and Agile Prowess founder Kim Poremski draws on more than 30 years of experience with leaders, teams, and organizations to reveal these common traps, using humor, real-world stories, and a practical framework to show what’s driving each one. You’ll leave with simple, memorable tools to lead your lean team or direct reports with more clarity and impact as soon as you’re back at work.

Book your hotel room at the Renaissance here. AAN Summit room block rates are available for the nights of February 22 and 23.
