The session will walk participants through key schedules, common compliance pitfalls, and what donors and the public look for when reviewing a 990, with a focus on using the return as a communication tool rather than an afterthought. Attendees will leave with clearer insight into filing requirements, red flags to avoid, and how to ensure their organization is telling its story accurately and confidently.

Meredith M. Smith, CPA is a Partner in the Birmingham, Alabama office and has over 25 years of experience in public accounting. Meredith graduated from the University of Alabama in 1996 with a B.S. in accounting and with a master's degree in accounting in 1997 from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She performs audits of not-for-profit organizations and provides outsourced controller services to all industries. Meredith is active in her community. She serves on the board for both the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama and Children's Aid Society and is a graduate of the MOMENTUM Alumnae Executive Program. Meredith and her husband, Jeff have two children and reside in Birmingham, Alabama.
